As I come closer to my two-year anniversary here at American Profit Recovery, I can’t think of all the changes that happened ever since I walked in through the front door. Just like the majority of the world, I had a bad interpretation of what a debt collector is. After spending even the first few days in the company, I realized that the people that I work with really do care about helping our clients and consumers. It’s understandable that people are going to have a hard time with paying their debts, especially with COVID-19 affecting everyone’s lives. That’s where we step in to help, and I can truly say that American Profit Recovery is there to help out a consumer, even in these hard times.
When the pandemic first started, a lot of people were surprised to know that we were still working and they couldn’t believe that we would call during “a time like this.” But what people don’t realize is that especially because of what is happening in the world, we want to help more than ever. I had my reservations about calling consumers at a time like this but once they realize that we are there to help and to work with their situation, it becomes a lot easier to work with them for a solution. It is also great for our clients as well, as a lot of them are small to medium sized businesses that are also affected by the pandemic. Working out a solution to help the consumer and the client is one of the best things about this job and was honestly an unexpected plus for me.
I feel proud when I find a solution to a problem when presented to me, and learning on the fly with new situations as they come is a great feeling.
I can’t say enough about the nice people that I have met over the years. American Profit Recovery is always welcoming to everyone that walks in our doors, a far cry to my original image of a cranky, depressed debt collector that I originally had in my head. The fact that I don’t have to worry about wondering who I should go to if I ever had an issue in the office is a big plus for me. Everyone is super helpful and I’ve never been uncomfortable reaching out to anyone about a question or concern I’ve had. It’s safe to say that I’ve definitely found a “work family” that I would feel challenged to find in most places. But after being here this long it makes sense, the environment we work in is a very positive one and I can that positive energy carries over to our calls and how we handle consumers.
We WANT to help you, and we understand that things are hard now, and that’s why we want to work with you for a solution.
With this “New Normal” everyone is having a hard time, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t help each other. Now more than ever we have to help each other, we really are all in this together. The skills I’ve picked up from this job also have helped me in my personal life as well. Whenever I find myself in a difficult situation, instead of sulking and just dreading the situation, I put myself in a mindset of “what can I do next to fix this”. I can say for sure that the fast pace thinking when a new situation happens on a call has helped me in my critical thinking which helps other aspects of my life. Instead of feeling like there isn’t a solution to a problem, I’m actively trying to find way to make it work. That drive to find what will work is also what I find in every department in this office, we all want to help and find solutions to difficult problems. Seeing how all the departments work together to make a very smooth-running operation is always something that continues to impress me and I am very happy to be a part of it. All in all, I am very proud of what I have accomplished so far and what American Profit Recovery continues to do for our clients and consumers and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.
