A Look Back at a Long Career in Collections

I am writing this blog as a reflection of my time at American Profit Recovery and to tell you some of the reasons why it is a great place to work.

First, I hope you have chosen to use the summer to rest, relax and even disconnect a bit. We all need to reflect on our recent successes and failures as well as the challenges ahead. These moments are vital to careful planning and future successes.

The staff here at American Profit Recovery has been of great help to me and their camaraderie have made every day worthwhile. Further, the company has a profound mission to make a difference and change the fundamental way in which a […]

APR receives endorsement from New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association

American Profit Recovery is excited to announce that The New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association (NJLCA) has recently endorsed the collection agency.

The NJLCA Board of Directors has approved American Profit Recovery to be their Preferred Partner for debt collections.

APR works with countless green industry professionals across the country and has a proven track record for improving the profitability of landscape contractors in maintenance, design/build, landscape management and of course lawn care businesses. APR recognizes that many landscape professionals are hesitant to send their clients to debt collection agencies due to the expense and fear of losing the client.

We know the importance of retaining customers and we employ a diplomatic approach to not only recover monies owed, […]

Celebrating the ACA’s 75th Anniversary in Chicago

I was honored to help represent American Profit Recovery at last week’s ACA Convention & Expo. The ACA is an international association comprised of leaders of Credit and Collection professionals. This year was the association’s 75th anniversary celebration and it was held in Chicago. It was terrific to be able to take in the wonderful sights and sounds of Chicago shoulder to shoulder with industry leaders.

The days were spent attending several top notch educational seminars from world class speakers. The diverse group of speakers ranged from Harley Davidson CEO speaking about building his company’s reputation to top political consultant Karl Rove commenting on how the collection industry contributes positively to the overall economy of the […]

Collection Agency Efforts Echo Those of Niagara Falls Preservation

Recently my family and I visited Niagara Falls for a quick weekend vacation. Being a Buffalo native growing up so close to the falls, I always took for granted what an amazing feat of nature they really are.

I always knew that people have harnessed Niagara Falls to provide electricit048y, but never knew that those efforts are also helping to preserve the falls. Left alone, the falls would erode at a rate of 10 feet per year. Because people have been diverting much of the Niagara River that would eventually reach the summit, the erosion rate is now only about 1 foot per year. In fact, they estimate that […]

What Type Of Training Do Debt Collectors Go Through?

A question that is frequently asked is “What type of training do collectors go through?”

A reputable collection agency will have a training program that covers a wide range of issues, knowledge and skills that are required and will continually reinforce that training. Below are some of the subjects covered in the training of debt collectors.

Personal Skills
Most reputable agencies hire people who can communicate well and then train them even further. The goal of an agency is to get payments secured for a client, so a collector needs to have superior skills in communicating with others. Debt resolutions come from a respectable dialogue and communication with consumers.

Regular Meetings
A collection agency with a good reputation will also […]

Collection Agencies Do More than Collect Debt

Did you know that collection agencies do much more than collect debt? They are also involved in their communities through charities; they go through extensive training programs and are well versed in the laws pertaining to collections.

Job Creation

In the United States, collection agencies accounted for over 302,000 jobs in 2011, according to an ACA International survey by Ernst &; Young. These employees helped their agencies to recover a total of $54.9 billion to the economy.

Training

Most reputable agencies belong to ACA International, which has a focus on training, laws and financial education. They also have their own “Code of Ethics” and Collectors pledge which goes above and beyond actual laws to ensure consumers are dealt with […]

Caught Being Good Again

My son (3 yrs. old) goes to swim school every Monday…well, most Mondays.  Lately it’s been a bit of a challenge to make it every Monday but we try our best.  Due to this inconsistency my son’s enthusiasm for swimming diminished.  It became hard to even get him in the water, let alone listen to the teacher’s instructions.

At swim school the design is to teach the kids in phases and when they have progressed enough they get bumped up to the next phase, which comes with a brand new teacher.  As with any teacher/student relationship there are certain people you connect really well with and those you don’t.  My son connected really well with his […]

Make 2014 the Year To Save

Every household’s financial situation is unique, but we all want to see more money in our bank account.  For many people saving for the future is second nature, but as simple as this concept may seem, not everyone knows how. Building a nest egg is not a luxury; it’s a necessity even for those who perceive themselves as living paycheck to paycheck.

A great way to start growing your savings is to routinely store a small percentage of your earnings in a separate account and leave it there.  Even if you are saving a small amount each week it will grow over time while being excluded from your budget. As time passes you may be surprised […]
